Meridian Energy Wind Turbine Run and Walk

Event Information - 18 September 2005

On the Sunday preceding the World Trophy there will be an uphill only race to the wind turbine above Wellington city. A short open event to prepare everyone for the following weekend.

The Event 7km walk/run from Botanical Rose Gardens to the Brooklyn Meridian Energy Wind Turbine.

Walkers: 50 Minutes - 2 hours

Route Details
A sketch map is available on the maps page. A beautiful and sheltered course for runners and walkers, that begins at Anderson Park in the Botanical Gardens in Thorndon. From the park, exit the Gardens onto Tinakori Rd and re-enter the Botanical Gardens through the brick entrance way. Swing right and stay on the right hand path all the way to Glen Rd in Kelburn. From Glen Rd turn right into Ngaio Rd. Cross Ngaio Rd pedestrian access steps to Upland Rd. Cross on the pedestrian crossing, turn left then right into Plunkett St. Right intor Noma Cres. Right into Highbury Rd. Stay left. At the Highbury Cres / Highbury Rd T-intersection turn right into Highbury Rd. At Denton Park turn right through gate to the "roller coaster" track that hugs the Karori Wildlife Sanctuary fence. Follow track to the Meridian Energy Wind Turbine. 98% uphill. A real but Achievable challenge for walkers and runners.

Scenery
A varied uphill course that is sheltered from the northerly and southerly wind until you reach the top which can be very windy. Enjoy passing through native trees with birdlife, the back streets of suburbia and see the spectacular wild Wellington views along the way.

Business House Category - The Meridian Energy Turbine Team Trophy
Get your team to the top. Enter five or more people from your staff and be in to win the Meridian Energy Turbine Team Trophy. Family and partners can also be counted as staff. Trophy for the first team across the line and prizes for best dressed team.

Safety
The roads will not be closed and all road rules apply. Walkers take a wind breaker jacket.

Finish Gear
It can be very windy at the top and you can chill off quickly. Walkers are recommended to carry a wind breaker jacket. A vehicle will leave 10 minutes before each race to take any finish gear to the top. Participants must supply a NAMED bag if they want gear to be taken to the top.

Bus
A bus will be available FREE of charge for those who do not wish to walk/run back to Anderson Park.

Support Vehicles
Only special pass vehicles and the buses will be allowed up Wind Turbine Road during event. Participants' support cars are encouraged to park in Brooklyn. Special car passes are available on a limited basis Contact organisers: 04.386.4992.

Prize Giving
12:00 midday at the Chicago Bar & Restaurant on the waterfront, Queens Wharf.

Fri 16th September, 11.00am - 1.00pm
Sat 17th September, 10.00am - 12.00pm
Postal entries received before Monday 12th September will be sent race numbers by mail. Only out-of-town entries can pick up race numbers on race day at Anderson Park between 8am and 9am.

No Refunds
No refunds will be given after 14 September. If refunds are requested prior to thise an administration fee will be held by the organisers.

12 pairs of Adidas Shoes plus two Adidas "Top to Tail" super prizes. Plus more.

Winners' Prizes
1st $500, 2nd $300 and 3rd $200 for Open Men and Open Women categories.
